NY D. Appleton & Co. 1929 Trade Paperback Fair+ No Jacket Music Book 4to -- 9.75 in Tall
256 pp. Worn, heavy rubbing on spine but binding still fairly strong, and all pages intact. A wide-ranging collection of songs celebrating the mythical happy times in the 19th century South despite slavery and poverty. Many of these tunes would be banned in today's schools because of racist lyrics. Others are still treasured, such as "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child." Includes many Stephen Foster ballads, Negro spirituals, minstrel tunes and plantation songs, including "Jim Crow." An editor's note says the Daddy Rice rendition of the tune was the first minstel tune ever performed by a white man in blackface. No. 27 in the Whole World music book series.
