A readable, lighthearted history of the New York State Fair, starting with its founding in Syracuse in 1841 and continuing through the 1980s. Includes information on its antecedents, including an "English agricultural fair" held in Bath NY in 1777. The author, a former Syracuse Post-Standard reporter who later became the fair's publicist, acknowledges the fair includes a large element of honky-tonk and always has.
