NY Collins & Hannay 1830 Reprint of 2nd Edition Calf Good No Jacket
476 pp. Rubbed, scuffed calf, with a thumb-sized gouged rough area on rear cover. Quarter-inch chip off calf at top of spine. Red spine label, with most of gilt titling intact. Moderate browning of text, moderate foxing throughout, mostly along margins but some mottling of text toward the end. Small hole in preliminary pages. Hinges split, but binding still strong. Pencil doodle on rear endpaper, no other markings or notations. Dedication to the King indicates the book was written in 1763; includes a "preface to the second edition" and an index. Text encompasses 25 chapters on various literary effects, such as "congruity and propriety," "wit," "language of passion," "narration and description" "resemblance and dissimilitude," etc., plus appendices. Home was a Scottish judge. Book photos available on request.
