Text clean. preliminary pages have a few pencil notes praising the book, plus a common pin holding a note to the half title page, warning "Do not lend this book." The author subtitles the book a "personal report after fifty years of study and enjoyment of wildlife within the boundaries of Greater New York." A comprehensive survey of the NY environment as it existed in the 1950s, told mostly in the first person. Details about various species, waterways, flowers, trees, insects, etc., with introductory chapters on history, geography and climate. Very readable. Maps of the boroughs on the endpapers. Binding firm, text still bright.
