12 Bolding, Gary Gary Bolding: From Window to Wall
Lakeland, Florida Polk Museum of Art 2006 Trade Paperback Fine No Jacket Book Inscribed By Artist
24 pp. Nearly new. Inscribed by artist and dated 2006. 17 color plante. A catalog of a Gary Bolding painting exhibition from October 2006 to January 2007. Essay by Roberta Smith Favis. An introduction to the exhibition states: "For more than 20 years, Gary Bolding has worked toward creating exquisitely polished, often surrealistic paintings that take thoughtful, but humorous looks at art historical and pop culture references. In paintings such as Man with a Flaming Wiener, he packs together layer upon layer of self-referential and more broadly cultural material. Most recently, however, Bolding has moved into an entirely different mode of painting: richly textured, highly abstracted, subtly colored, and large-scale. This new work, still layered to a strong degree, brings the imagery of his paintings back to the surface of the canvas, replacing a Renaissance view of the painting as window with a thick impasto that projects from the wall." Many of his more recent works carry the whimsical label "O.D.I.O" for "of decorative interest only." A professor ofaArt at Stetson University, Bolding has had one-person exhibitions in venues throughout Florida, the Southeast, Europe and Mexico. The front and rear covers of the catalog show a detail of his abstract "S.P.F.A.H. No. 1XL" Size: 8vo -- 9 in Tall By 12 in Wide, horizontal Format

18 Davidson, Marc Fit to Print: The Newspaper and the Poster
Daytona Beach Florida News-Journal Corp. 2004 0964005042 / 9780964005044 First Edition. Trade Paperback Fine No Jacket Book
182 pp. Nearly new, tight, no markings, slight thumbing. Spine uncreased. More than 200 color plates, full page or half page, reproducing posters that advertised newspapers in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Most of the posters promote French, German, Italian and British publications. A few American dailies also are included. Among the scores of artists represented are Jules Cheret, Leonetto Capiello, E. Charle Lucas and Louis J. Rhead. Front cover shows "La Nymphomane," a young woman in a tight-fitting Gay 90s gown, hat and boa, tossing newspaper pages from atop a chimney to advertise Le Journal. This hard to find catalog was compiled and rather playfully annotated by Marc Davidson to showcase the poster collection that he and his father, the late Herbert M. "Tippen" Davidson Jr., amassed for the Daytona Beach News-Journal over a 30-year period. Four generations of the Davidson family were majority owners of the News-Journal for about 80 years. Circa 2004, the poster collection became tied up in litigation between the Davidsons and Cox Newspapers, a former co-owner of the paper. Cox claimed the Davidsons wasted millions of the newspaper's profits on various cultural endeavors, including the poster collection. A federal judge later awarded the poster collection to Cox. Despite appeals, the posters eventually were taken out of the News-Journal offices and transferred to ownership by Cox Newspapers. As of 2017, the location of the collection has not been disclosed. Photos of the catalog are available upon request. Size: 4to -- 11 in Tall By 8.5 In Wide
